A Charlton women’s footballer has been sacked after Snapchat videos reportedly showed her inhaling balloons at a party and swigging champagne at the wheel of her luxury Range Rover.

The clips of Madelene Wright, 22, emerged on the social media platform last week, prompting an investigation by the club which today concluded with the news she had been let go.

The star had previously been investigated by her former club Millwall after she was seen holding a dog with its paws on the steering wheel while she was driving along a residential road.

Another video also appeared to show her inhaling balloons while behind the wheel

One clip showed Wright, who has more than 50,000 social media followers, at a party with friends where a number of people were inhaling from balloons, the Daily Star reported.

A second showed her sipping champagne behind the wheel of her £31,500 modified Range Rover Evoque.

Charlton confirmed today that they have parted company with the player. Her player profile has been removed from the club’s official website.

A spokesman told the Sun: ‘The club were made aware of the video and quickly investigated the incident.

‘As a club we are disappointed with the behaviour which doesn’t represent the standards the team upholds.

‘The player is remorseful and has now left the club.

‘The club would like to make clear that although the behavior is not acceptable, the players welfare remains important to us and she will still have access to the club’s support channels if needed.’

Wright joined Charlton in January this year after leaving Millwall. The video of her driving with a dog emerged in October 2019.

Joshua Harris, from Brake, a road charity said: ‘Driving and alcohol simply do not mix.

‘When you’re behind the wheel you’re in charge of a potentially lethal weapon which requires full concentration and zero impairment to do so safely.

‘We urge all drivers to never drink any amount of alcohol and drive – and certainly never do both at the same time.’
