Karl Stefanovic has apologised to Anastasia Palaszczuk live on air for his wife’s drunken phone call, where she begged the Premier to open the state’s borders.
The popular Today Show presenter told the Queensland leader he was sorry for his partner Jasmine’s late-night drunk dial, when Ms Palaszczuk appeared on the Channel Nine morning program on Wednesday.
‘I wanted to apologise and give you my deepest apologies for my wife’s drunken call to you last Friday, telling you in her own very sweet Queensland way to open the borders,’ Stefanovic said with a smile on his face.
When co-host Allison Langdon asked what was said on the call, Stefanovic then imitated his wife and impersonated the conversation.
‘Please open the borders Premier… Please,’ Stefanovic joked.

To stop it from happening again, he joked that he’s now saved the Premier’s contact details under his lawyer’s name.
Ms Palaszczuk gracefully accepted the apology but sent out a warning to others about picking up the phone after a few drinks.
‘It’s okay. It’s perfectly alright. That’s probably one of the calmest ones I’ve heard Karl,’ the Premier said.
‘I understand how stressful it’s been on people… but maybe not the drinking and ringing up, stay away from that.’
Stefanovic and shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough got married in December 2018.
The couple had their first child, daughter Harper May, earlier this year.

While everyone saw the funny side of the chat, it may actually have been a masterstroke, as days later Queensland announced the ban on many New South Wales travellers would soon be lifted after being closed for several months to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The Sunshine State will open its borders to Greater Sydney on December 1, after the city recorded no mystery cases of Covid-19 for about a month.
Queensland, which is already open to the rest of NSW, will also re-open to Victoria on the same day if it records another day of zero new cases on Wednesday.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the news yesterday, saying: ‘We know how tough this has been on families. This is a great day. It’s exciting news.’
‘Now is the time, if you live in New South Wales, come to Queensland, start planning that holiday. We would love to have your business.
‘It means jobs for Queenslanders. And as you know, Queensland, beautiful one day, perfect the next,’ she said.
South Australians remain locked out of Queensland after a cluster in Adelaide last week, with a border review at the end of the month.
